Mort White Live in the Garden
Every
week Mort White shares his love affair with mother
nature and over 1.5 million listeners. The Magic Garden
is a mix of well‑hewn garden wisdom, whimsical
humor, and theater.
His
wisdom started at the age of 8, when he grew radishes.
At 13 he worked at his dad's nursery; a five mile
walk from school. By 14 Mort knew the botanical names
of all the plants in the nursery. He was on a landscape
crew at 16; and at 30 opened his own garden center.
In
his greenhouse he grew plants from all over the world
(succulents, tropical, alpine, cacti and temperate
zone).
On
air since 1981, Mort's naturalness comes through loud
and clear. With a quick pun, he can turn a listener's
driest question into a springboard for a zany reply.
Asked once the wisdom of killing slugs with beer,
Mort's response was simple and direct: "It only
works with the alcoholic slugs." The
theater includes innovative segues that use sounds
of tractors, squeaky barn doors, and original music
to add background and drama.
A
member of the Pioneers in Broadcasting and the Garden
Writers of America, Mort White continues to write
a nationally syndicated column, ads for key sponsors
and makes regular appearances around the country for
various organizations. Mort also has produced television
programs of gardens throughout North America.
His
eye for beauty is very much evident in his photo postcards
and videography.
Mort's
passion for nature includes a genuine love of people.
He has been a consultant to major horticultural companies
but his true love is the connection he makes with
his audience on The Magic Garden Show.
