Wet Area

Question: 835-4212
Can you suggest some plants for a wet area on my property in southern NH? Some of it is shaded. Steve, Gardener, MA

Mort's Answer:
Viburnums, cranberries and dogwood, especially red twig dogwood and willows like the sunny areas. All the flowering broadleaf evergreens, such as azalea, rhododendron, laurels, and mahonia do better in partial shade. Most of the grasses, especially pampas, like a constant moist soil. All sedge plants will thrive. Maples and willows absorb vast amounts of water.
