Question: 1213-5114
My miniature rose plant has bolted to three feet high. It had red two inch flowers and they were prolific. When can I cut it back? Francis, Norwich, CT

Mort's Answer:
I would wait until spring when new sprouts appear. Your miniature rose may refer to the flowers and be at the ultimate height. You will do no harm by cutting it back a foot at that time since these shrub roses bloom on new wood. Cutting it now may cause the canes to fill with water or ice and crack. You would still have to prune in the spring anyway to make it what is cracked up to be.
