Question: 1401-317
What are the best grow lights for indoor plants? Len, Norwich, CT

Mort's Answer:
Most are full spectrum red and blue. Fluorescent is the blue but do not contain any red spectrum. Pink colored light is full incandescent and full blue. Yellow lights are mostly red. You could use incandescent bulbs with fluorescent tubes to get full spectrum light, which is the best of both worlds. It gives you the same benefit as the pinks.

Question: 1094-814
A friend has started seeds with great success under fluorescent light. Do we need grow lights? George, New Brunswich, Canada

Mort's Answer:
Plants and seeds will do best with full spectrum light. If the blue light fluorescent bulbs are supplemented with natural light, they will do better. Incandescent bulbs can be added, if there is little or no sunlight. Gro-lights need to be checked to see if they have both red and blue spectrum. They usually cast a pink light.
