Question: 694-612
I planted 100 elderberry cuttings recently and temps have gone down to 28 degrees. The plants seem to being well. Do I need to be concerned? George, Boaz, AL

Mort's Answer:
Elderberry is quite hardy. In nearby Florida, when they expect a frost , they mist the citrus trees with water to protect the trees. Ice crystals form and create a barrier between the leaves and the cold air. It works like a charm. Unlike Europe, almost all of the US is experiencing a mild winter. In zone 7b you may have had a problem last year. Once they have a strong root this year, they can weather any freezing in the sub sequent winters.
