Question: 537-1811

Mort's Answer:
Besides the new hybrids, there are three original Redbuds. Cercis canadensis is known as American Redbud or Eastern Redbud. It is native from Ontario to Florida and Texas. It has a rose pink flower. It has a white, and a double variety. Asiatic Redbud is a smaller tree and has a rose purple flower. C.chinensis is often sold as C. japonica. C.siliquastrum is native to Eurasia and grows to 30 feet like the American and needs protection in zone 6 north. It will not survive in zone 5, where you are.
